Col. (Ret.) Peretz Vazan

Director General of the Ministry of Science and Technology

Colonel (Res.) Peretz Vazan has served as the Director General of the Ministry of Science and Technology since February 2016. Before joining the Ministry, Vazan held a list of senior management and command positions in the civilian workforce and the IDF.
Between the years 2006 and 2016, Vazan served as the director of the Dan and Southern Districts of the Israeli Employment Service. He was responsible for spearheading projects for promoting employment and empowering and placement for tens of thousands of citizens. As part of his role as district director, he spearheaded an initiative for professional collaboration with government ministries, authorities, business entities and third sector organizations; and he was responsible for the management of budgets totaling tens of millions of shekels. In the Southern District, he was involved in the establishment of the district, creating procedures, work norms, and service and placement systems, managing dozens of employees.
Prior to joining the Employment Service, Vazan served in the IDF for over 30 years, in command, operations and training positions. In his last position, Vazan served as the Southern District Home Front Commander and was responsible for regular and reserve duty units, preparing the civilian population in large areas for emergency situations, and planning and supervision of professional fields such as defense and security, infrastructure and protection, hospitals and health. He was responsible for integrating a rocket warning system in Sderot and Sovev Negev, as well as complex campaigns for the civilian population. Vazan still completes his reserve duty in the National Emergency Authority.
Vazan earned a bachelor’s degree in Economics and Logistics, with distinction, and a master’s degree in Public Policy, with distinction, both of which are from Bar Ilan University.
