Dr. Martin Collins

Curator at the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum

Martin Collins is a curator at the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum. He received his Ph.D. in history of science and technology from the University of Maryland.
His research focuses on the history of the United States in the world after 1945, as seen through the history of technology. In 2006, he received the Society for History of Technology's IEEE Life Member Prize for his article "One World…One Telephone: Iridium, One Look at the
Making of a Global Age, History and Technology 21" (2005): 301-324. He serves as editor of the journal History and Technology (Routledge) and is managing editor of the book series Artefacts: Studies in the History of Science and Technology, published by the Smithsonian Institution Scholarly Press.
Dr. Collins’ book A Telephone for the World: Motorola, Iridium, and the Making of a Global Age will be published by Johns Hopkins University Press in April 2018.
